The Manitoba government is seeking highly motivated Maintenance Assistants to work within the Asset Management Division, Operations branch.

Duties:
Under the supervision of the Facility Manager or designate, the incumbent performs a variety of planned or unplanned, moderately complex tasks relating to the operation, and maintenance at Manitoba Youth Centre and New School for the Deaf. The incumbent will work as a team member and use current safe work practices and follow Workplace Safety and Health policies.
Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Trade designation or equivalent combination of education (5th class Power Engineer, partial or full trades certificate, BOMI Certificate) or demonstrated experience with general building and grounds maintenance, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety, policies and legislation.
  • Experience with building maintenance and repair and/or minor construction.
  • Ability to analyze and problem solve.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive working relationships. 
  • Experience using hand and power tools. 

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Satisfactory enhanced Security Check and Child Abuse Registry may be required.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers Licence and be able to work in other locations within the Division as needed.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including sitting, lifting, reaching, working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
