The Prevention Worker will provide children and families with support services to keep them from entering the child and family services protection system by providing preventative service opportunities and resources, facilitating awareness and education, advocacy and counselling.  The overall aim is to engage parents, extended family, and community partners in identifying problems and participating in services and supports that address family needs.  The Prevention Worker will utilize a continuum of resources, develop case plans, coordinate the resources and supports needed and arrange linkages/connections to other community resources such as day programs, respite services and other culturally appropriate resources. The Prevention Worker will possess and utilize the interpersonal skills to work with children, families, staff, and collaterals.
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree (BSW) with experience in child welfare preferred, or a combination of experience and training
  • Commitment to community-based service delivery 
  • Knowledge of CFS legislation, issues and standards
  • Knowledge of Child & Family Services Information System (CFSIS) is an asset
  • Assessment, interviewing, and counselling skills
  • Demonstrated crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as a team setting 
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of First Nations culture and values 
  • Ability to speak the Dene language would be considered an asset 
 
Working Conditions:
  • Fast-paced environment
  • Confidentiality environment with access to sensitive information 
  • Overnight and remote travel approximately 5% of the time
  • Background checks must meet Agency minimal acceptable standards. 
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle
