
JOB POSITION: Humanities/Language Instructor (Teacher)

Yellowquill University College (YQUC) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Humanities/Language Instructor to join our Mature Student High School Diploma (MSHSD) Program. This unique, culturally grounded program supports adult learners in achieving their educational goals while fostering an inclusive, respectful, and learner-centred environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in empowering students to complete their high school diploma while strengthening their understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, languages, and worldviews. The ideal candidate will be committed to creating meaningful learning experiences that honor First Nations knowledge and perspectives.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the MSHSD Program Coordinator and the Director of Yellowquill University College,
the Humanities/Language Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, supporting student
success, and contributing to the ongoing development of the program.
This full-time position follows the academic year calendar and includes teaching two classes daily across
four terms, each lasting approximately 9–10 weeks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess:
• Bachelor of Education degree.
• Valid Permanent Manitoba Professional Teaching Certificate.
• Experience teaching Humanities, Social Studies, Indigenous Studies, English Language Arts, or related subjects at the secondary level.
• Experience working in adult education and with Indigenous learners.
• Strong knowledge of First Nations history, culture, traditions, and contemporary issues.
• Understanding of Truth and Reconciliation and Indigenous education principles.
• Strong understanding of adult learning principles and student-centred instructional practices.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Copilot and other digital learning tools.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• High level of professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail.
The following would be considered strong assets and preferred qualifications:
• Ability to speak, teach, or incorporate the Ojibway (Anishinaabemowin) language into instruction.
• Experience teaching Indigenous language courses.
• Knowledge of local First Nations communities, histories, and cultural practices.
• Experience incorporating land-based, experiential, or culturally relevant learning opportunities into classroom instruction.

• Current Criminal Record Check.
• Current Child Abuse Registry Check.
• Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
• Access to a reliable vehicle.
