Position Overview:
We are seeking a Distribution Design Engineer to join our Distribution Design Department. Under minimal direction of the Senior Electrical Distribution Engineer, the Distribution Design Engineer will supervise and provide Engineering leadership to a team of highly skilled professional and technical staff, assuming professional responsibility for the design and preparation of work orders for additions and modifications to the 66kV and below electrical distribution systems in Eastern Manitoba. The Distribution Design Engineer will ensure compliance with Manitoba Hydro and National Standards and that customer needs are met in a safe and cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering design support and technical direction for overhead and underground residential, commercial, and streetlighting projects within Eastern Manitoba to ensure that safety, compliance with standards, and cost efficiency are met.
- Assume professional responsibility, as well as supervise the preparation of design packages (construction drawings, bills of material and cost estimates) for distribution design projects.
- Monitor and report on project scheduling.
- Supervise a team of engineers and technical staff. Develop, coach and mentor staff for increasing responsibility and recommend decisions on human resource items including candidate selection, promotion, training, performance assessment, and discipline.
- Negotiate plant location with other Utilities, Manitoba Infrastructure & Transportation, Municipalities, Developers and Customers to achieve the most economical addition of distribution plant.
- Collaborate with internal and external other stakeholders.
- Perform Field Checks as required.
- Recommend improvements to "Manitoba Hydro Construction Standards for 66kV and Below" through the Distribution Standards Department, and participate in the evaluation of new designs, methods, and materials.
- Recommend and facilitate the development of new and existing electrical distribution design software applications used by the department.
- Represent the department on distribution system related committees and working groups.
- Provide input and recommendations to the Department's strategic action plan, goals, and future vision.
Qualifications:
- Graduate in Engineering from a recognized University with a minimum of seven years related experience. (Consideration will also be given to candidates with less than seven years related experience.)
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
- Demonstrated ability in providing mature leadership, direction, motivation and delegation to a group of engineers and technical staff.
- Sound knowledge of electrical distribution systems.
- Capable of devising new methods or modifying standard principles or practices to new or changing conditions.
- Good understanding of construction methods, equipment, and materials used in electrical distribution.
- Good understanding of Customer Policy Application.
- Demonstrated ability in report writing and in preparing and making oral presentations.
- Good knowledge of Corporation policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Must be enthusiastic and display initiative in resolving complex and adverse technical problems.
- Possess a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $52.88-$72.45 Hourly, $101,332.40-$138,828.30 Annually.
