Position: Resident Support Mentor

This is a part-time, day/weekend shift. 12-month term position to May 2027.
Position Overview:
Under the supervision and direction of the Operations Manager and in accordance with the Centre's philosophy, goals, standard practices, the incumbent functions as a member of the Eagle Woman's Lodge team in providing supportive services designed to enable Indigenous women to achieve change and growth.
The incumbent works with residents in mutual effort, to confront and overcome those conditions which contribute to the individuals’ negative interactions with the justice system.
Skills & Qualifications Required:
· Certificate in the field of human services is preferred and a minimum of one-year related social service work experience or Grade 12 with a minimum of two years of work-related experience. IWHC reserves the right to consider any combination of work and life experience deemed acceptable to fulfill the role.
· Must have demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
· Must be able to work in a high stress/fast paced setting.
· Must have skills in both verbal and written communication.
· Willingness/ability to accompany residents, in groups or individually for activities, appointments and cultural ceremonies outside of the Lodge.
· Must have the ability to understand the dynamics of offenders' behavior and assess their needs and risks.
· Must have the skills to counsel offenders, form effective relationships, and gain trust.
· Must have the skills to understand the use of authority in supervision and to intervene effectively in crisis situations.
· Must have the ability to assist offenders in identifying and solving the practical problems involved in their successful reintegration into the community.
· Must have the ability to assist offenders in and obtain community services required for their successful reintegration.
· Must have the ability to understand cultural differences.
· Ability to maintain and adhere to professional boundaries with residents is essential.
· Knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions, community needs and issues, and Indigenous women's issues.
· Knowledge of an Indigenous language or dialect considered an asset.
· Must have the ability to acquire a Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record Check and clear an Enhanced Security Screening.
· A valid Manitoba Driver’s License is required.
The wage for this position is $24.41/hour.
