Position Overview:
We are seeking a Technical Officer – Fault Analysis to join our Grid Infrastructure Planning Department. Under the general direction
of a Professional Engineer, identify, initiate and conduct fault-related planning studies necessary to ensure reliable and economic
expansion of the major electrical transmission network.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct fault analysis studies for various internal and external groups, prepare reports and maintain the fault level working model using PSS/E simulation software to ensure accuracy.
  • Contribute to the annual TPL assessments and report update and publish the corporate station fault level database as required and provide fault level subject matter expertise as required.
  • Prepare capital project justification documentation, including capital investment concept (CIC), capital investment justification (CIJ) and capital budget single line diagrams (CBSLD).
  • Prepare and make presentations in defense of reports and recommendations to interested parties outside of the department.
  • Support staff in the performance of technical studies and provide technical expertise to others in the section/department.
  • Represent the Department by participating in appropriate internal and external committees, etc.


Qualifications:
  • A two-year diploma in Electrical Technology from an institute of recognized standing with a minimum of five years of directly related experience to the planning of power systems.
  • An excellent working knowledge of computer programs used for electric power system studies (PSS/E, DSA Power Tools, EMTP and/or PSCAD/EMTDC).
  • An excellent working knowledge of fault analysis and sequential components 
  • A working knowledge of power system Facility Rating System (FRS).
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and experience in creating capital budget single line diagrams.
  • In depth understanding of the Manitoba Hydro interconnected power system and in the application of system planning criteria, such as NERC/MRO and Manitoba Hydro planning standards.
  • Fully knowledgeable in the capital budgeting process.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others (major industrial customers) and represent Manitoba Hydro outside of the Corporation.

Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $43.35-$59.82 Hourly, $83,070.78-$114,625.68 Annually
