Position Overview:
We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our Transmission & Dist Projects Department. Under the general direction of the Stations Projects Management Section Head or Project Manager, initiate, plan, execute, and close-out assigned (distribution, station, transmission, HVDC and other) Group I, II & III capital projects & program items. Provide project management support to assigned project managers of Group I (> $25M or strategic) projects. In all aspects of your work, demonstrate Manitoba Hydro's C.A.R.E. principles (Collaborate, Align, Reimagine, Empower).
Responsibilities:
General
- Serve as overall champion for project delivery through all phases for projects that you are leading.
- Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships across the enterprise.
- Engage with project participants, both internal and external, to facilitate project execution and to proactively identify and overcome obstacles to project progress including escalating issues as required.
- Hold project team members accountable to their commitments.
- Demonstrate a sound understanding of the principles associated with the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of transmission and distribution plant, including safety, environmental, and resource issues.
- Demonstrate personal and professional leadership within the Section.
- Serve as a supervisor, coach and/or mentor to others; provide project management expertise in all aspects, as assigned or as opportunities arise.
- Lead and/or contribute to business process improvement initiatives.
Initiate & Plan Capital Projects
- Lead the development of and submit requests for capital project approvals.
- Develop capital project plans, including all related Project Management Division (PMD) checklist items, including among others: Project Charters, Project Execution Plans, Communication Plans, RACI Matrices, Schedules, Budgets, Risk Matrices, etc.
- Lead Project Kick-Off meetings.
Execute Capital Projects
- Lead project communication, and other project meetings.
- Monitor and control project scopes, schedules, budgets, and cashflows.
- Provide or contribute to monthly project progress and financial reports, including variance explanations.
- Lead the project change management process.
- Lead material and/or service procurements as required, liaise with project team members to ensure timely receipt of deliverables.
- Lead Lessons-Learned meetings at the completion of each project execution phase.
Close-Out Capital Projects
- Ensure all project activities, including trailing activities (invoice payments, contract closures, as-built drawings, deficiency resolutions, etc.) are complete.
- Complete project close-out checklists and confirm closure of the related capital investments.
Qualifications:
- Graduate in Engineering from a University of recognized standing, with a minimum of six years' related experience including two years' experience in project management.
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
- Sound knowledge of fundamentals of electrical, civil and mechanical engineering disciplines.
- Demonstrated application of Project Management theory including scoping, estimating, scheduling, procurement, cost control, risk management and change control in an engineering or construction environment.
- Strong computer skills including experience with scheduling software and the Microsoft Office suite of software. Experience in the use of SAP and P6 to oversee capital budgets and schedules is an asset.
- Experience related to projects associated with transmission, distribution, HVDC or natural gas plant operation as it relates to design, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities is an asset.
- Demonstrated high degree of initiative, and ability to maintain working relationships and interact effectively with others at all levels, both inside and outside the corporation.
- Additional formal project management training/education and/or PMP or other similar certification is an asset.
- Ability to lead, direct and motivate personnel. Proven organizational and leadership abilities.
- Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $48.74-$67.29 Hourly,
$93,398.24-$128,947.78 Annually.
