Position Overview:
We are seeking a Distributed Energy Resource Engineer to join our Distribution Planning Department. Under the general direction of the Grid Modernization Engineering Section Head, provide technical expertise and guidance to approve customer distributed energy resource (DER) technical interconnection service application, maintain and update the DER standard. The position is responsible for enabling safe, efficient integration and control of distributed energy resources and support grid modernization priorities on the distribution system, improve system flexibility and reliability, and optimize distribution planning and operations.
Responsibilities:
- Review, clarify and approve customer and consultant DER service applications, and perform required studies.
- Participate and lead complex studies to develop requirements for design, planning, protection, performance, and operations.
- Undertake and seal designs and prepare drawings, material review, estimates, and specifications for projects related to DER proposals.
- Provide training, guidance and development of staff in areas of DER subject matter expertise.
- Develop and specify commissioning procedures for DER systems and participate in their commissioning.
- Maintain the technical relevancy of the DER standards, facilitating updates with stakeholders and supporting departments.
- Employ project management techniques in keeping with the Project Management Body of Knowledge to ensure effectively delivered projects.
- Incorporate safety fundamentals in the design process using Human Error Reduction and Risk Management techniques developed by Corporate Safety.
- Represent the department on external and internal distribution system related committees, working groups and research & development projects.
Qualifications:
- Graduate in Electrical/Computer Engineering from a university of recognized standing with a minimum of six years' experience in related utility work covering visibility, automation, reliability, protection, generation, procurement and commissioning, including a minimum of two years' experience directing others.
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
- Demonstrated leadership in planning, organizing, and motivating technical support staff.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice of Distribution system, DER interconnection requirements, planning, and protection criteria.
- Demonstrated experience and skill managing large projects using recognized project management skills.
- Demonstrated experience and skill employing lean and critical thinking skills to improve processes and procedures.
- Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Motor Vehicle Driver's Licence.
NOTE: Required to travel by all modes of transportation i.e. air, land and water.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $48.74-$67.29 Hourly, $93,398.24-$128,947.78 Annually.
