Position Overview:
We are seeking a Professional Engineer to join our Station Design Department. Under the general direction of the Automation & Controls Engineer or delegate, prepare detailed design drawings, programming and provide support for complex station automation, protection, control, and metering systems, for high voltage AC transmission, distribution, hydro generating, HVDC converter and diesel generating stations.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform and/or direct teams responsible for the design and preparation of drawings, bills of material, estimates, memos, specifications, and material requisitions related to complex integrated Station Automation Systems (SAS), and protection, control, metering (PCM) associated with high voltage ac distribution, transmission, converter and diesel generating stations.
  • Provide design expertise on electrical aspects of control, metering and auxiliary systems of new and existing stations and conducts drawing reviews to ensure completeness prior to design approval.
  • Prepare specifications, analyze tenders, and initiate a recommendation for purchase of materials. With follow-up involving the review and approval of manufacturer's documentation and design, determining, and assisting with shop or field tests, and liaison with suppliers as required.
  • Monitor and report project progress, and as required initiate corrective actions to ensure budget and in-service goals are met.
  • Consult with other design sections, coordinate, and design the interface for digital control & metering systems with protective relays, Remote Terminal Units (RTU) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) for the purposes of integrated substation automation design.
  • Assist in the development of standards for substation control and metering with continuing review of same to ensure designs are current with technology, are cost effective and satisfy end user requirements.
  • Assist in the write-up of commissioning & testing procedures for substation control & metering systems.
  • Provide training, work guidance and on-site assistance when necessary to construction & commissioning staff in areas of expertise.
  • Meet with manufacturers' representatives, consultants, contractors, and Corporation personnel from other divisions as required to satisfy station design requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a University of recognized standing with a minimum of six years' experience of which two years are directly related to high voltage transmission, distribution, converter, hydro generating and diesel generating stations protection, control, and metering design.
  • Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Personal Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro policy P513.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in interfacing of Programmable Logic Controllers compliant to IEC1131 and meter systems for remote data interrogation and station integration.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in electro-mechanical, solid state and digital relay technology and applications on AC system protection.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of protection, control and automation circuitry including electromechanical, electronic, and microprocessor-based technologies and digital communications as applied to the design of complex protection, control, metering, and interlocking schemes associated with high voltage AC distribution, transmission, converter, hydro generation, and diesel generating stations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Bulk Electric power systems and procedures used in its operation, maintenance and construction practices as related to protection, control, and operational metering systems.
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with ability to provide guidance and technical assistance to others.
  • Demonstrated initiative in handling involved and complex technical problems.
  • Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.

Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $48.74-$67.29 Hourly, $93,398.24-$128,947.78 Annually.
