Position Overview:
We are seeking a Technical Officer to join our Grid Infrastructure Planning Department. Under the general direction of a Professional Engineer, identify, initiate and planning studies necessary to ensure reliable and economic expansion of the major electrical transmission network.
Responsibilities:
- Perform load interconnection evaluation/load interconnection facility studies including the addition and expansion of major industrial customers. Provide advice on complex issues to major industrial customers.
- Conduct technical studies, prepare reports and make recommendations for the economic and reliable expansion of the Manitoba Hydro networked transmission and/or sub-transmission system.
- Perform fault analysis studies for various internal and external groups and prepare technical reports or memorandum.
- Prepare and make presentations in defence of reports and recommendations to stakeholders outside of the department such as the Corporate Value Framework Committee.
- Prepare capital project justification documentation, including capital investment concept (CIC), capital investment justification (CIJ) and capital budget single line diagrams (CBSLD).
- Develop planning specifications for future station equipment including but, are not limited to, transformers, reactive power devices, surge arrestors, switches and circuit breakers.
- Support staff in the performance of technical studies and provide technical expertise to others in the section/department
Qualifications:
- A two-year diploma in Electrical Technology from an institute of recognized standing with a minimum of five years of related experience including two years of experience directly related to the planning of power systems.
- Experience conducting load flow, voltage stability and other specialized power system studies using power system simulation tools.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and experience in creating capital budget single line diagrams.
- Demonstrated an ability to plan and carry out complex study work, analyze results, and prepare technical reports and memorandum.
- Solid understanding of interconnected power systems and effectively applies power system planning criteria, such as NERC reliability standards.
- A good working knowledge of engineering economic principles and the power equipment, including its applications and limitations in the power system, would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with personnel both orally and in writing within the Corporation, manufacturers, consulting engineers, and other utility representatives.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $43.35-$59.82 Hourly, $83,070.78-$114,625.68 Annually.
