ABOUT THE TEAM
As part of the Finance and Administration division, the Facility Operations team plays a vital role in supporting the RRC Polytech’s mission through the effective stewardship of its physical assets and infrastructure. The team is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of campus buildings, grounds, and infrastructure across multiple sites, and is committed to service excellence, continuous improvement, and responsible resource management. Working collaboratively with other departments, staff and faculty across RRC Polytech, the Facility Operations team supports the maintenance of academic, research and support spaces to ensure a safe and functional learning and working environment.
 
WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical equipment, systems, and infrastructure across RRC Polytech campuses. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational effectiveness of electrical systems while supporting a safe and productive learning and working environment for students, staff, and visitors. The Electrician provides skilled technical expertise to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards, and supports preventative maintenance programs, emergency response activities, contractor coordination, and the ongoing operation and sustainability of campus facilities.
 
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
  • Red Seal Journeyman Electrician Certificate
  • City of Winnipeg electrical contractors license
  • Extensive years’ experience in a commercial setting working as journey man electrician
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and special procedures applicable to the work Observes safety regulations and safe work practices
  • Ability to read and interpret campus maps, engineered drawings, blue prints, electrical schematics or other basic drawings
  • Ability to pull permits in the City of Winnipeg
  • Experience with controls systems and operation
  • Ability to work from heights (on ladders, scaffolds, and platforms), stand for long periods, and move heavy equipment, materials, structures and furniture
  • Experience with testing, trouble shooting, and replacement of switch gear, breakers, overloads, and panel hardware components (less then 600 Volts AC)
  • Experience with carrying out Visual Inspections, Infrared Testing, Re-Torquing Procedures and Voltage testing throughout the college on a regular basis in order to ensure that operational hazards are avoided and that systems are operating within code compliance
  • Experience with maintenance of electrical equipment and systems, including fire alarm systems
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
 
NICE TO HAVE
  • Openness to using AI tools as relevant to role specific work
  • Familiarity with AI tools and willingness to adopt new technologies
  • Experience working within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) environment
  • Experience working in institutional, educational or large commercial facilities
  • Experience supporting sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

  • Salary Range for this position:  $72,800 - $102,606 per annum
  • Generous Paid Vacation: full-time employees accumulate a minimum of 15-days vacation per year, increasing to 30 days with service, while full-time Instructors accumulate 44 days per year. Information on casual and part-time vacation accrual is outlined in the Collective Agreement or the Terms and Conditions for Excluded Employees as applicable

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
  • Incumbent must hold a valid class 5 driver`s license
  • This position may be required to travel
