Formed in 2023, Treaty One Nations Inc. (T1N) represents the interests of the seven signatory First Nations of Treaty No. 1, originally signed on August 3, 1871, at Lower Fort Garry. T1N is committed to advancing areas of collective self-governance, cultural preservation, and community well-being for its Nations. T1N is Responsible for the governance and oversight of the development of the jointly held Treaty One Lands. The leadership of the seven First Nations of Treaty No. 1 forms the Governing Council of T1N.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Finance & Accounting Clerk plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of Treaty One Nations Inc. (T1N), the Treaty One Development Corporation (T1DC), Treaty One Construction Company (T1CC), and Oodena Gas & Convenience (OGC) by ensuring financial information is accurate, reliable, and maintained in accordance with organizational policies, funding agreements, and applicable accounting standards. Reporting to the Senior Finance Officer (SFO), the Finance & Accounting Clerk contributes to the organization's financial stewardship by supporting sound financial management, accountability, transparency, and informed decision-making.
The position provides administrative and accounting support across a broad range of financial functions, including transaction processing, financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll administration, banking activities, and audit preparation. Working collaboratively with internal departments, affiliated entities, external vendors, funding partners, and other stakeholders, the Finance & Accounting Clerk helps ensure the efficient, effective, and accountable management of organizational resources.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Finance & Accounting Clerk is responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations of T1N, T1DC, T1CC, and OGC. This includes processing accounts payable and receivable transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations, assisting with payroll and banking activities, and preparing financial reports and supporting documentation.
Working closely with the Senior Finance Officer, the Finance & Accounting Clerk contributes to budgeting, financial reporting, contribution agreement reporting, year-end audit preparation, and the administration of contracts, leases, and asset records. The position also supports the continuous improvement of financial systems and processes by maintaining effective internal controls, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, and ensuring the integrity of financial data.
Success in this role requires strong analytical and organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while providing responsive customer service and maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and financial integrity.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education
- Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum one (1) to three (3) years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or a related financial administration role.
- Experience using computerized accounting and financial management systems.
- Experience processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking transactions, reconciliations, and financial reporting is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a First Nation, Indigenous organization, government, public sector, or not-for-profit environment is considered an asset.
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls, and standard bookkeeping practices.
- Knowledge of financial reporting requirements, funding agreements, payroll processes, and applicable financial legislation and regulations.
- Strong understanding of Treaty One First Nations' history, cultures, values, and inherent rights, with demonstrated respect for Indigenous traditions, perspectives, and cultural protocols.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and the ability to learn new financial software and systems.
