WHAT YOU WILL DO
As the Library and Academic Services Systems Specialist, you will help shape the future of library technology at Red River College Polytechnic. In this dynamic role, you will lead the planning, implementation, and enhancement of innovative technology solutions that support student success, teaching, learning, and research. From overseeing the library's digital services ecosystem, including its web presence, discovery systems, institutional repository, and digital collections, to exploring emerging technologies, you will play a key role in creating seamless and engaging user experiences.
Working collaboratively with Library and Academic Services colleagues, campus partners, and technology vendors, you will drive system improvements, support technology implementations and migrations, and help optimize workflows and services. Your expertise will ensure our systems remain accessible, sustainable, and responsive to evolving needs, while aligning with the strategic priorities of Library and Academic Services and Red River College Polytech. You'll also provide oversight for library lending technology and related operations, contributing to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology, or related degree or diploma or relevant combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated experience working with structured data, including creating, parsing, transforming, and integrating data into formats such as XML, JSON, CSV, and SQL
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience using cataloguing and metadata standards, including MARC and Dublin Core
- Strong ability to apply design principles, including typography, spacing, visual hierarchy, and composition, to develop accessible and effective user interfaces
- Supervisory experience leading and motivating staff, including providing training and coaching, working knowledge of recruitment, onboarding, work assignment, scheduling, performance management, and employee engagement
- Experience designing and developing accessible websites and digital services in accordance with recognized accessibility standards, government legislation, and organizational policies, with an understanding of vendor compliance requirements for electronic resources and services
- Demonstrated knowledge of project and change management principles, with experience leading technical projects and initiatives that foster innovation, support effective change management, and advance continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated experience in an academic library setting, preferably with responsibility for the administration, support, and continuous improvement of integrated library systems (ILS) and related library technologies
- Demonstrated experience with integrated library systems (ILS) and discovery services, preferably Ex Libris Alma and Primo, along with knowledge of current issues, trends, and best practices in resource discovery, access, and user experience within academic libraries
- Experience developing, implementing, and supporting automated library systems and workflows that enhance service delivery, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to organizational success
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with demonstrated experience interpreting complex information and data, providing expert insights, while communicating findings clearly and effectively to diverse audiences
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and engage professionally with students, employees, vendors, and other stakeholders
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
NICE TO HAVE
- Ability to use AI tools to gather, analyze, and report data
- Knowledge of AI-related data, security, and privacy practices
- Web design diploma or certificate is an asset
- Project Management certificate is an asset
- Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, and XSLT
- Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program, with a focus on systems, is an asset
- Achieve and maintain proficiency as a certified systems administrator of the library’s current Integrated Library System (ILS) (to be completed within 6 months of start of employment)

- Salary Range for this position: $59,924 - $84,505 per annum
- Generous Paid Vacation: full-time employees accumulate a minimum of 15-days vacation per year, increasing to 30 days with service, while full-time Instructors accumulate 44 days per year. Information on casual and part-time vacation accrual is outlined in the Collective Agreement or the Terms and Conditions for Excluded Employees as applicable
- December Break: employees receive time off with pay during the period between Boxing Day and New Year's Day
