Indigenous Women’s Healing Centre operates long term residential safe houses for Indigenous women and children who have experienced family violence and/or systemic neglect.

Currently, we require the services of skilled Evening and Overnight Support Staff who will be responsible for monitoring and supporting resident activities, ensuring the safety and security of residents and children, and enforcing house policies during the evenings, overnights and on weekends.

Under the supervision and direction of the Operations Manager and in accordance with the Centre's philosophy, goals, standard practices, the incumbent functions as a member of the North Star Lodge staff team in providing supportive services designed to enable Indigenous women to achieve change and growth. The Resident Support Worker is responsible for monitoring resident activities and Centre operations within a 24/7 residential facility.  The Resident Support Worker acts as a role model, teacher, resource, and guide to assist residents in achieving their chosen goals and provides such support in a manner that encourages safety, self-awareness, and self-determination within the Indigenous context. 

·         Certificate in the field of human services is preferred and a minimum of one-year related social service work experience or Grade 12 with a minimum of two years of work-related experience.  IWHC reserves the right to consider any combination of work and life experience deemed acceptable to fulfill the role.

·         Must have demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. 

·         Must be able to work in a high stress/fast paced setting. 

·         Must have excellent English language skills in both verbal and written communication. 

·         Must have the ability to understand the dynamics of trauma-induced behavior and assess residents needs and risks. 

·         Must have the skills to counsel residents, form effective relationships, and gain trust. 

·         Must have the skills to understand the use of authority in supervision and to intervene effectively in crisis situations. 

·         Must have the ability to assist residents in identifying and solving the practical problems involved in their successful reintegration into the community. 

·         Must have the ability to assist residents in and obtain community services required for their successful reintegration. 

·         Must have the ability to understand cultural differences. 

·         Knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions, community needs and issues, and women's issues. 

·         Knowledge of the effects that intergenerational trauma has on Indigenous women, their families and communities.

·         Knowledge of an Indigenous language or dialect considered an asset. 

·         Must be able to complete a Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check.

·         A Manitoba Driver’s License is desired, but not mandatory.
