POSITION SUMMARY:
Ginew Wellness Centre (GWC) Home Care is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and community-minded Resident Support Safety Worker to support residents within our Assisted Living Program. This position combines personal care and safety/security responsibilities to help ensure Elders and residents live safely, comfortably, and with dignity.
The successful candidate will provide holistic, culturally safe support while promoting wellness, independence, respect, and meaningful connections within the community. This role requires cultural sensitivity, humility, and respect for Indigenous cultures, traditions, values, and Anishinabe ways of knowing while supporting residents, families, and community members.
POSITION DETAILS:
Status: Full-Time Permanent
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Meal Break: 30-minute unpaid meal break
Hours Per Week: 35 hours
Reports To: Assisted Living Coordinator/Home Care Manager (or designate)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Resident Care & Support
· Assist residents with activities of daily living, including mobility, personal care, and meal support.
· Provide compassionate emotional support, companionship, and respectful care.
· Observe and report changes in residents' physical, emotional, or behavioral well-being.
· Promote resident dignity, independence, and overall wellness.
· Encourage participation in social, cultural, recreational, and wellness activities.
· Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful living environment.
· Deliver services in a culturally safe and respectful manner that recognizes and honors Indigenous traditions, values, beliefs, and lived experiences.
Safety & Security
· Maintain a safe, secure, and respectful environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
· Conduct regular safety and security checks of the facility, grounds, and parking areas.
· Monitor and control access to the facility, including visitors, entrances, exits, and common areas.
· Utilize surveillance systems to monitor activity within designated areas of the facility.
· Respond to incidents, emergencies, disturbances, and safety concerns in a calm and professional manner.
· Support conflict resolution and de-escalation using trauma-informed approaches.
· Assist with emergency response procedures, including fire emergencies, medical incidents, and evacuations.
· Help protect the facility from theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
Reporting & Documentation
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation of resident observations, incidents, and services provided.
· Communicate resident concerns, incidents, and safety issues to the Assisted Living Coordinator/Home Care Manager in a timely manner.
· Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives as required.
· Follow all Ginew Wellness Centre policies, procedures, reporting requirements, and standards of care.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
· Health Care Aide (HCA) Certificate or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Valid Manitoba Driver's Licence with a satisfactory driving record.
· Current First Aid and CPR Certification, or willingness to obtain.
· Experience working with Elders, assisted living residents, or community-based programs is an asset.
· Security, safety, or emergency response experience is an asset.
· Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
· Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during emergencies or high-stress situations.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
· Demonstrated understanding of cultural sensitivity, cultural humility, and trauma-informed care, particularly when supporting Indigenous Elders, residents, families, and community members.
· Commitment to cultural safety, respect, and person-centered service delivery.

· Valid Manitoba Driver's License
· Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professional ethics, cultural safety, cultural sensitivity, and respectful service delivery
· Flexibility to work evenings and additional hours as required
