BACKGROUND:
SCO is a growing and dynamic regional First Nation organization that represents 33 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations and more than 92,000 citizens in what is now southern Manitoba. Established in 1999 by the Chiefs, SCO is mandated as an independent organization to protect, preserve, promote, and enhance First Nation peoples’ inherent rights, languages, customs, and traditions through the application and implementation of the spirit and intent of the Treaty-making process. 
 
OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Manager, Court & Justice Services, the MMIWG2S+ Coordinator provides program support, oversight, and coordination for initiatives that support families impacted by MMIWG2S+. Working within a trauma-informed and culturally grounded framework, the Coordinator is responsible for developing partnerships, strengthening service coordination, supporting systems advocacy, and overseeing program delivery. The Coordinator ensures that families have access to responsive, culturally safe, and coordinated support while advancing initiatives aligned with the National Inquiry's Calls for Justice. 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Leadership, Service Coordination & Oversight:
•                    Support and implement the planning and evaluation of MMIWG2S+ program activities and services
•                    Ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed, and family-centered approaches are integrated throughout program delivery
•                    Monitor program activities, identify emerging trends and service gaps, and develop strategies to strengthen supports available to families
•                    Support complex, sensitive, or escalated family situations requiring coordination across multiple service systems
Strategic Partnerships & Community Relations:
•                    Build and maintain strategic relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, service providers, justice partners, and government agencies
•                    Facilitate collaborative approaches to improve service access and coordination for families impacted by MMIWG2S+
•                    Represent SCO at community meetings, working groups, committees, and partnership tables related to MMIWG2S+ initiatives
Advocacy, Systems Change & Community Awareness:
•                    Advocate for policies, programs, and initiatives that support the goals of No More Stolen Sisters and the Calls for Justice
•                    Participate in regional, provincial, and national initiatives that address systemic barriers impacting Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse people
•                    Support public education, awareness, and advocacy efforts that promote prevention, healing, and community engagement
Program Development & Resource Management:
•                    Develop and maintain inventories of community resources, healing programs, wellness supports, and service networks
•                    Identify funding opportunities and support the preparation of grant applications, funding proposals, and reports
•                    Assist in developing policies, procedures, and program resources that support service delivery and program growth
Program Evaluation & Reporting
•                    Review service trends and outcomes to support program evaluation and continuous improvement
•                    Assist with reporting requirements and provide recommendations to strengthen program effectiveness

 
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
·         Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Health Sciences, Counselling, Indigenous Studies, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, lived experience, cultural knowledge, and relevant work experience will be considered
·         Three (3) years of experience in health, wellness, social services, Indigenous community services, or a related field
·         Knowledge of the impacts of colonization, Indian Residential Schools, Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, the Child Welfare System, MMIWG2S+, and intergenerational trauma affecting Indigenous Peoples
·         Understanding and appreciation of Anishinaabe and Dakota teachings, languages, ceremonies, songs, and cultural practices as they relate to healing and wellness
·         Knowledge of and respect for Dakota and Anishinaabe community protocols related to traditional gatherings, ceremonies, and events
·         Strong understanding of community resources, systems navigation, referral processes, and barriers impacting Indigenous individuals, families, and communities
·         Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, service providers, and partners
·         Ability to provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally safe support to individuals and families experiencing grief, loss, and complex life circumstances
·         Sound understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical practice
·         Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet-based technologies
·         Ability to speak Dakota or Anishinaabemowin is an asset
 
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
·         A current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search
·         A valid class 5 MB driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle 
·         This position involves supporting families and communities affected by trauma, grief, loss, and violence and exposure to sensitive and emotionally impactful information. There is potential for vicarious trauma and compassion-fatigue and therefore an ongoing requirement to actively engage in self-care
·         If the employee is a member of a registered profession, they must be a member in good standing with their regulatory body

 
WAGE RANGE: $65,000 - $70,000 Annually
