Mission- Southeast Child and Family Services supports the children, families, and communities with providing respectful, caring, and supportive preventative and protection services to 
promote the well-being and safety of the children, families, and communities.

Position Overview: The Family Recovery Coach supports healing for the whole family when substance use and recovery affect their lives. The Coach combines peer support, family education, practical coaching, and culturally informed programming. Working across the eight Southeast First Nations communities, the Coach builds trust with families and delivers in-person workshops, groups, and activities that strengthen parenting, relationships, life skills, and well-being. Reports to the Program Manager.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Support families through recovery using a respectful, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental approach.
  • Provide education on substance use, parenting, relationships, healthy boundaries, managing setbacks, harm reduction, and well-being.
  • Connect families with appropriate supports and follow SECFS referral and reporting procedures for clinical, crisis, or child safety concerns.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate culturally informed programs across the eight Southeast communities.
  • Facilitate workshops on recovery, parenting, life skills, and healthy relationships using evidence-based parenting approaches within the Coach’s qualifications.
  • Support cultural, land-based, pre-employment, recreational, and therapeutic activities within the role’s scope and with appropriate professional support.
  • Create safe, welcoming, and accessible learning spaces and recommend program improvements.
  • Build positive relationships with families, Elders, community leadership, SECFS staff, and service partners.
  • Respond professionally to inquiries and coordinate workshop and event logistics.
  • Maintain accurate program records and reports, track expenses, and support budget planning.
  • Prepare presentations and promotional materials using Microsoft Office and Canva.
  • Protect confidential information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • At least two years of related experience in addictions and recovery, family support, peer support, facilitation, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered; a degree or diploma is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Anishinaabe beliefs, values, ceremonies, and teachings.
  • Understanding of family systems, codependency, trauma-informed practice, and harm reduction.
  • Ability to work respectfully and effectively with First Nation leadership, children, families, colleagues, and community partners, with an understanding of the eight Southeast communities.
  • Experience speaking to groups and facilitating interactive workshops.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and internet research.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver’s licence, access to a personal vehicle, and ability to travel regularly.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, Prior Contact Check, and Driver’s Abstract.
