Job Title: Child & Youth Navigator
God’s Lake Narrows Jordan’s Principle – Winnipeg Sub Office
Position Summary
The Jordan’s Principle Child & Youth Navigator provides specialized support, advocacy, and programming for children and youth from God’s Lake Narrows who are living in or accessing services in Winnipeg. This role supports children with disabilities, complex needs, and other disadvantages by coordinating services, collaborating with professionals, developing individualized and group programming, and offering counselling‑informed support. The Navigator ensures that children and families receive culturally safe, holistic, and timely assistance while navigating urban systems.
Key Responsibilities
Child & Youth Support & Navigation
- Provide direct support to children and youth with disabilities, developmental needs, behavioural challenges, or other specialized needs.
- Assist families in navigating health, education, disability, and community service systems in Winnipeg.
- Advocate for equitable access to supports, assessments, and resources.
- Offer short‑term, culturally safe, counselling‑informed support
Programming & Skill Development
- Develop and deliver individualized and group programming tailored to the needs of specialized children and youth according to God’s Lake culture & traditions..
- Incorporate cultural teachings, land‑based elements, and strengths‑based approaches into programming within an urban environment
- Support life skills, emotional regulation, social development, and cultural identity.
Collaboration & Professional Coordination
- Work closely with multidisciplinary professionals, including therapists, clinicians, educators, case managers, and cultural specialists.
- Participate in case conferences, school meetings, and collaborative planning sessions.
- Ensure communication between families, service providers, and the Jordan’s Principle team is clear and consistent.
Resource Finding & System Navigation
- Identify and connect families to appropriate community resources, supports, and funding options.
- Assist with referrals, applications, and follow‑up to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain updated knowledge of Winnipeg‑based disability, mental health, and youth services.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete case notes, assessments, safety plans, and progress summaries in accordance with Jordan’s Principle standards.
- Track service plans, goals, and outcomes for each child or youth.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards.
Management & Administrative Support
- Assist program management with administrative tasks such as scheduling, reporting, data tracking, and program planning in the Winnipeg Sub Office
- Support the development of policies, procedures, and program improvements
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, trainings, and JP programming
Other Duties (As Assigned by Supervisor)
- Support community events, family programming, and cultural gatherings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- University or College degree/diploma/certification required
- Clinical experience is an asset
- Experience working with children and youth with disabilities, developmental needs, or complex behavioural needs.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, with preference of God’s Lake Cree community values.
- Strong skills in assessment, counselling‑informed practice, and case coordination.
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external service providers.
- Strong communication, advocacy, and problem‑solving skills.
