Job Title: Land‑Based Coordinator
God’s Lake Narrows Jordan’s Principle – Winnipeg Sub Office
Position Summary
The Land‑Based Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering culturally grounded land‑based programming for children and families from God’s Lake Narrows who are living in or accessing services in Winnipeg. This role supports cultural identity, healing, and wellness through activities rooted in Cree teachings, seasonal knowledge, and community traditions. The Coordinator works closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and specialized instructors to ensure programming is safe, meaningful, and reflective of the values of God’s Lake Narrows.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination & Planning
- Develop, organize, and oversee land‑based programming for children and youth, including seasonal activities, cultural workshops, harvesting, medicine picking, storytelling, and outdoor learning.
- Create monthly and seasonal program calendars that reflect community needs, cultural cycles, and available resources.
- Coordinate logistics such as transportation, supplies, equipment, food, and safety planning for all outings and activities.
- Adapt programming to an urban Winnipeg environment while maintaining cultural integrity and connection to the land.
Cultural & Community Collaboration
- Work in partnership with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural specialists to integrate Cree teachings, language, and traditional practices into programming.
- Ensure programming honours the cultural identity and community values of God’s Lake Narrows.
- Support opportunities for intergenerational learning and community connection.
Child & Youth Engagement
- Build strong, trusting relationships with children and youth participating in land‑based programming.
- Provide guidance, encouragement, and emotional support during activities.
- Promote teamwork, confidence, cultural pride, and positive peer interactions.
Safety & Risk Management
· Conduct risk assessments for all land‑based activities and ensure appropriate safety measures are in place.
· Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, and outdoor resources.
· Maintain attendance records, activity logs, and basic program documentation.
· Provide updates to the Jordan’s Principle team regarding program outcomes, needs, and challenges.
· Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and collaborative case discussions.
Community Events & Additional Duties
· Support cultural gatherings, family events, and community celebrations.
· Assist with program promotion, outreach, and family engagement.
· Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications
· Experience delivering land‑based, cultural, or outdoor programming with children and youth.
· Strong knowledge of Cree culture, seasonal teachings, land‑based skills, and community traditions.
· Experience working with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous families.
· Ability to work outdoors in all seasons and adapt programming to an urban environment.
· Strong communication, leadership, and relationship‑building skills.
· Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (or willingness to obtain).
· Valid driver’s license is an asset; comfort with land‑based travel (boat, snowmobile, etc.) and weather is beneficial.
