Under the direction and supervision of the Jordan’s Principle Off-Reserve Program Director, the Land-Based Coordinator will be responsible to assist in the development, management, and oversight of the Land Base Program for Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council - Health Services including, but not limited to being responsible to coordinate Land Base activities teachings, knowledge to any off-reserve children and families under the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council (DOTC) service area; gather pertinent information and ensure activities are relevant to our Ojibway and Dakota Nations members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Land Management: Coordinate and manage the First Nation's traditional land base, including monitoring land use, conducting land surveys, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
· Consultation and Negotiation: Assist in facilitating consultations and negotiations with government agencies, industry representatives, and other stakeholders regarding land management, resource development, and environmental protection.
· Traditional Knowledge Preservation: Assist in collaborating with community members, elders, and knowledge keepers to document and preserve traditional land use practices, cultural heritage, and ecological knowledge.
· Community Engagement: Assist and engaging with the community to gather input on land management strategies, providing information about land-related issues, and promoting community involvement in decision-making processes.
· Environmental Stewardship: Promoting sustainable land use practices, conservation, and environmental protection within the traditional land base, and working to minimize the ecological impact of development activities.
· Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, permits, and agreements related to land management and resource development.
· Relationship Building: Building and maintaining positive relationships with external stakeholders, such as government agencies, industry representatives, and neighboring communities, to foster collaboration and address shared land management concerns.
· Data Management: Collecting, organizing, and analyzing data related to land use, land tenure, resource extraction, and environmental monitoring, and utilizing this information to inform decision-making processes.
· Project Management: Overseeing land-related projects, including research initiatives, land reclamation efforts, or infrastructure developments, from planning to implementation and evaluation.
· Policy Development: Participate in policy development processes.
· Programming: Providing and overseeing cultural events/activities on and off reserve. Collaborating with community Land-Based teams to organize cultural events.
QUALIFICATIONS: (including, but not limited to)
- Post-Secondary Degree in Education, Environmental Studies, Social Work preferred or combination of related work experience and/or training.
- Knowledge of population health and First Nations perspective on health and wellness.
- In-depth knowledge of First Nations health and wellness system needs.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation such as CFS Act, Vulnerable Persons Legislation.
- Must have excellent written and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Apple Computers.
- Ability to work independently and as a Team.
- Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· Valid Manitoba Driver’s License & Access to a reliable vehicle
· Travel extensively throughout region
· Clear Criminal Record Check, Valid CPR and First Aide Certification.
