JOB POSTING

Director of Finance

ABOUT US
Formed in 2023, Treaty One Nations Inc. (T1N) represents the interests of the seven signatory First Nations of Treaty No. 1, the first of the 11 numbered Treaties, originally signed on August 3, 1871, at Lower Fort Garry following several days of discussions and ceremonies. T1N is committed to advancing areas of collective self-governance, cultural preservation, and community well-being for its Nations. T1N is Responsible for the governance and oversight of the development of the jointly held Treaty One Lands, and the leadership of the seven Nations form the Governing Council of T1N.

PURPOSE
The Director of Finance provides strategic financial leadership and oversight to support the financial health, accountability, and long-term sustainability of T1N and the Treaty One group of companies (T1 companies), including Treaty One Development Corporation (T1DC). The position is responsible for leading a centralized Finance Department that delivers effective, consistent, and accountable financial services across multiple entities while respecting their distinct governance and operational requirements. Reporting to the Executive Director of T1N and working in regular consultation and collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of T1DC, the Director serves as a key financial advisor and departmental leader. The position plays a critical role in strengthening financial governance, supporting informed decision-making, and building a capable, engaged finance team committed to accountability, professional growth, and the values of the Treaty One Nations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Finance leads financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial operations across T1N and the T1 companies. This includes overseeing shared financial services, maintaining accurate and separate financial records for each entity, managing intercompany transactions, and ensuring consistent financial policies, systems, and controls. The Director works collaboratively with organizational leadership to monitor financial performance, manage cash flow, assess financial risks, and support strategic and operational priorities. The position is accountable for accurate and timely financial reporting, contribution agreement administration, regulatory and funding compliance, payroll oversight, asset management, and annual audit coordination. The Director leads improvements to financial systems and internal controls, provides financial analysis and recommendations on contracts and financial obligations, and advances T1N's Financial Management Board (FMB) certification initiatives. The role also ensures leadership and governing bodies receive reliable financial information and that identified financial risks or compliance concerns are addressed appropriately. As the leader of the Finance Department, the Director oversees departmental operations, establishes clear performance expectations, and provides ongoing supervision, coaching, and professional development to finance staff. The position promotes succession planning, knowledge transfer, and continuous improvement while building internal financial capacity, with an emphasis on supporting the development of First Nations finance professionals. The Director fosters a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team that delivers timely and responsive financial services to T1N and the T1 companies.
