Under the supervision of the Generation Support Section Head, this position will be primarily responsible for the maintenance and operations of Manitoba Hydro's domestic water and wastewater systems for North Central Department (Jenpeg, Kelsey, Wuskwatim, and Laurie River). This includes maintenance of operator certificates in compliance with Manitoba regulations, ongoing reporting of sampling results, troubleshooting, and response to system emergency emergencies and/or upset situations. The position may also support other Water and Wastewater Facility Operators at other Manitoba Hydro facilities as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain Class II water treatment systems as Operator-in-Charge (OIC) at NCG and WG facilities.
- Operate and maintain Small System wastewater systems as OIC at NCG facilities.
- Operate and maintain Small System domestic water distribution and wastewater collection systems as OIC at NCG and WG facilities.
- Support and provide technical resources for other Generation Operations & Maintenance water and wastewater systems.
- Troubleshoot and perform maintenance functions on water treatment facilities and wastewater treatment systems and all their associated pumps, motors, circuit breakers, and other associated equipment under normal and emergency conditions.
- Provide direction and training to trainees, technicians, station operators, helpers, and any other staff who may perform any maintenance tasks as well as complete the daily chlorine sampling. Develop and use standard procedures, and emergency plans, and ensure availability to provide remote assistance when not present on site.
- Perform standby duties as required.
- Ensure all ancillary equipment and consumables required to operate these systems are properly maintained, calibrated, replaced, and repaired as per manufacturer requirements.
- Develop and update all required procedures for the water and wastewater treatment and collection systems and the water treatment and distribution systems into the work management system.
- Maintain operating records, logs, and laboratory analysis results in compliance with the Regulation, EAM standards, industry practice, and manufacturer requirements. Develop and maintain statistics where required and have a demonstrated ability to prepare reports.
- Maintain all legislative required documentation neatly and accurately for all water treatment and wastewater treatment systems.
- Acquire Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits to successfully renew operator certificate every five years in compliance with the Manitoba Water and Wastewater Facility Operator Regulation.
- Comply fully with all safety procedures and regulations as well as corporate, legislative, and regulatory environmental requirements.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12, G.E.D., or Mature High School Diploma.
- A Class 2 Operator's Certificate in Water Treatment as issued by Manitoba Conservation plus two years of experience.
- Experience as an Operator In Charge of a Domestic water system would be seen as an asset.
- Minimum Small System Wastewater treatment and collection certificates as well as Domestic Water Distribution certificate.
- Demonstrated understanding and conformance to safety standards, procedures, and practices, including Lock-out and Permit Systems.
- Detailed knowledge and application of domestic water treatment theory and procedures using specialized test equipment, computer/PLC applications, wet bench analyses, and tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, both independently and in a team environment, including during system emergencies.
- Capable of interpreting and maintaining drawings, schematics, laboratory test results, and databases.
- Must be familiar with, and adhere to, federal and provincial regulations and practices related to WHMIS and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
- Physically capable of performing all the duties of the position.
- Required to have mechanical aptitude to satisfy all requirements of the position.
- Capable of communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Driver's Licence with the appropriate classification.
Notes:
- This position will be required to work at multiple locations within Operations. Transportation between these sites includes driving and aircraft.
- The position is based in Winnipeg with an estimated 90% of the working time requiring travel to one of the stations.
- The position will follow the Winnipeg 9-day work schedule. Actual working hours will be in accordance with the IBEW Letter of Understanding for the assigned work locations.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $29.70-$39.61 Hourly, $56,913.22-$75,893.48 Annually.
