Resident Support Worker Part-Time Nights
Hours: Nights 11:00 pm – 7:00 am Saturdays & Sundays (Weekends)

Ikwe Widdjiitiwin Inc is an Indigenous domestic and family shelter. Our mission is to support Indigenous women and their children end domestic and family violence, by offering shelter during crisis and nurturing hope, change and empowerment for tomorrow.
Under the supervision and direction of the supervisor, and in accordance with Shelter standards, philosophies and goals, the worker functions as a member of a team in providing supportive services designed to enable Indigenous women to recover from the effects of abuse from gender-based violence. The worker acts as a role model, guide, counselor and advocate to assist residents to recognize their current needs and goals, and to make informed decisions toward assuming control over their own lives. The worker is expected to work with families in a mutual effort to confront and overcome those conditions that have contributed to personal difficulties and to do so in a manner that encourages self-awareness, self-worth, and increased independence.
Qualifications:
• B.S.W. preferred or some University study towards a degree in the field of human services and a minimum of two years related experience
or
• Certificate (2 year) in the field of Human services and a minimum of two (2) years related experience
or
• Other equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions, community needs and issues and Indigenous women's issues is essential
• Awareness of the effects of abuse in all forms is required as well as the recognition of the needs associated with healing and ways to meet those needs
• Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written, are essential
• Valid class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle would be an asset
• All employees are subject to a criminal & adult record check and child abuse registry check
