1 FULL TIME POSITION

 

Background:

Island Lake First Nation Family Services was originally established and operated under the auspices of the Awasis Agency of Northern Manitoba on April 30, 1983. On April 21, 1997, Island Lake First Nation Family Services was incorporated as its own agency.  
Island Lake First Nations Family Services consists of four communities: Garden Hill First Nation, St. Theresa Point First Nation, Wasagamack First Nation, and Red Sucker Lake First Nation with the total population of well over 10,000 people. 

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Family Enhancement Supervisor, the Family Enhancement Worker’s primary accountability is to the families of ILFN by providing respectful preventive services. The Family Enhancement Worker provides hands on, intensive supports with families to address risk and strengthen family functioning. Family Enhancement Workers complete thorough assessments and comprehensive planning with families and follow a solution focused strength-based approach to making change. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for working with the family in a collaborative, non-judgmental manner while following the practice principals of the AFE Program.
  • Gathers information, assesses family functioning, completes assessments, comprehensive planning and written case plans.
  • Develops and implements intervention plans within program guidelines.
  • Provides referrals, support guidance and problem solving to families to address issues related to family functioning and mitigate the risk.
  • Goal of the program is to increase family capacity and safely prevent children from coming into care.
  • Provides workshops, meetings, and training to the clients.
  • Links families and children to external resources based on needs.
  • Responsible for case management for families receiving FE Services.
  • Responsible for planning, delivering, and providing programming community initiatives.
  • As part of community development, to support initiatives that the community and its other service departments are providing.
  • Cooperate with the ILFNFS management and FE Team in the development of Local Child Care Committees, customary care practices and Family Group Conferencing.
  • Engages families and their identified community and/or family support system that works towards reaching identified goals.
  • Applies knowledge of family dynamics and issues such as domestic violence, child development, substance abuse and mental health/wellness to interventions with families.
  • Works with the family to develop personal supports and resources and building linkages to community that supports family in reaching their goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S.W., or comparable education & experience with direct service in First Nations Child and Family. 
  • Strong working knowledge of legislation, policy, and standards demonstrated experience in policy and program development.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of child welfare theory and practice and demonstrated experience in the development and provision of education and training within child welfare environments.
  • Experience and/or training in case management and counselling.
  • Experience with applying Indigenous approaches to the development of programs and services for children, families, and communities.
  • Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications with strong writing and editorial abilities.
  • Must Possess a valid MB driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Excellent computer skills with direct experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish, engage, and maintain strong relationships with staff and clients.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently or cooperatively in a team setting and maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of and respect for the customs and traditional philosophy of the Island Lake Region.

SALARY: Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $49,287.00 – $83,369.00 annually.
