Introduction
In the Indigenous Business Development (IBD) Branch, our mission is to increase economic participation and opportunities for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples, businesses and governments in Manitoba. This involves working with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, businesses and not-for-profit organizations, and other governments to support initiatives that advance this goal. The (IBD) Branch is responsible for advancing Indigenous economic reconciliation initiatives, grant funding, business loan and loan guarantees that support the full inclusion of Indigenous communities and businesses in all aspects of Manitoba’s economy.
The Manitoba Government has a comprehensive compensation and benefits package which includes extended health care, health spending account, dental care, vision care, long-term disability insurance, group life insurance, maternity/paternity leave, family-related leave and a defined pension plan (some pension plans allow for portability between the Civil Service Superannuation Board and employers). Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Class 5F Manitoba Driver's License.
- Ability to travel throughout Manitoba and out of province by different modes of transportation such as car, boat and plane.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in economic development, business or public administration, social sciences, marketing, management or other discipline related to the position. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Experience working directly with Indigenous Peoples, communities or organizations focusing on relationship building.
- Experience providing detailed analysis and advice to senior leaders on dynamic and time-sensitive issues.
- Experience working on projects from the design, research, and analysis stages to presentation and final recommendation.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, foster collaboration and build partnerships between various government and external stakeholders.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Excellent written communication skills demonstrated through experience drafting reports, presentations or briefing materials.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with experience presenting to senior leaders and/or external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage competing demands within tight timelines.
Desired:
- Knowledge of The Path to Reconciliation Act and the United Nations’ Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
- Experience working to support the economic development of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
- Experience working to implement Call to Action 92 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
- Experience reviewing or evaluating business models or funding proposals.
Duties:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Business Development Liaison will work to foster economic participation and growth for Indigenous Peoples in Manitoba. Some of the responsibilities include developing and reviewing business models, securing funding, creating partnerships with government and private sectors and building capacity within Indigenous communities in terms of navigating government processes. The incumbent will play a critical role in mending relationships between the Manitoba government and Indigenous Peoples by acting as a main point of contact and supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs and organizations in navigating business development, procurement strategies, and financial opportunities as well as providing consulting services in policy development, project management, and the implementation of economic initiatives that align with Indigenous interests.
