Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000


Summary

The Seal River Watershed Alliance is a dynamic, fast paced, Indigenous led and run non-profit, committed to protecting the Seal River Watershed: an expanse of pristine wilderness in Northern Manitoba, the size of Nova Scotia. 

We are looking for an Indigenous leader with proven management skills who wants to join a growing non-profit organization and is ready to make a difference in the world. 

The primary role of the General Manager will be to ensure the  strategic goals of the Alliance are met by setting operational direction and guidelines, creating and maintaining budgets, coordinating the funding program, and managing the Land Guardians Program. They will work closely with the Executive Director in strategic planning and implementation and will be an important point of contact for employees, consultants, funders, and partners. 

Role Objective:

To develop and implement the Alliance’s strategic work plans, in keeping with the Vision and Values of the organization.

To manage and continue to advance the Land Guardians Program, maintaining a balanced and motivational work environment.

To ensure organizational stability by managing resource development for the organization.

Responsibilities:
Planning & Strategic Management
  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of Alliance work plans
  • Ensure that all operations contribute to the organization's vision and values
  • Monitor the day-to-day delivery of operations to maintain or improve quality 
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of resource development
Budgeting and Finance
  • Allocation of resources and ensuring that budgets comply with funding rules, finance policies, and align with strategic goals.
  •  Preparing, managing, and evaluating organizational and program budgets.
  • Ensuring all expenses comply with funding rules and finance policies  and ensuring all other financial tasks are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
Administration and Resource Development
  • Identify appropriate funding opportunities, write grants and proposals
  • Administer all funding, contracts, and contribution agreements.
  • Manage all written and financial reporting to funders
  • Write and produce informative briefings and reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors, email updates and other communication materials for the Alliance.
  • Partner with individuals & organizations in both the public & private sector to plan and  implement supporting programs.
Land Guardians Network Program Management
  • Provide management support and direction to the Land Guardians Coordinator and up to 15 staff located throughout the Watershed.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the Land Guardians’ Network work plan and budget.
  • Provide Human Resources support to the Land Guardians Program, including hiring and disciplinary action in alignment with the Alliance’s Human Resource policies.

Basic Requirements:

  • Working full time in the Alliance‘s satellite office in Winnipeg, MB. 
  • Valid Manitoba drivers license
  • Criminal Record and child abuse registry checks
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Canada, internationally, and to remote communities staying in rustic accommodations

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Degree or Diploma in a related field, plus three years of experience in business  or nonprofit management. A combination of education and experience is acceptable if it relates to the essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Preference will be given to candidates from Alliance Communities with a working knowledge of nonprofit management.
