Position Summary
 
Under the supervision and direction of the Operations Manager and in accordance with the Centre's philosophy, goals, standard practices, the Healing Plan Coordinator functions as a member of the Eagle Woman's Lodge team in providing case management activities for residents. This includes completing follow-ups of Correctional Plans/Healing Plans.  The incumbent works with residents in mutual effort, to confront and overcome those conditions that have contributed to personal difficulties and conflict with the justice system and to do so in a manner that facilitates self-awareness, self-worth and self-determination within the Indigenous context.   The Healing Plan Coordinator motivates and encourages Residents to develop life skills in their community environment through such outlets as participation in programs, observing behavior or progress, and preparing reports in accordance with the case management responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities
 
Service to Residents
 
·         Reads and explains the Resident Handbook to new residents to ensure a thorough orientation takes place with clear expectations and responsibilities of the women in residence.
·         Develops an Individual Healing Plan with each Resident assigned to them.
·         Advocates and makes referrals to appropriate external community resources to support Residents' Correctional/Healing Plan and goals.
·         Assists women in PATH planning and problem solving to self-determine concrete, achievable goals, both short and long term.
·         Cooperates, consults and debriefs on a daily basis with staff at shift change.
·         Gain detailed information from Residents and third parties to prepare written reports which are used to maintain Individual Healing Plans and other relevant documents based on the case management responsibilities.
·         Conduct ongoing monitoring of Resident activities, behavior, and mood within the Healing Lodge. 
·          Identify and intervene in situations that may pose security risks and to diffuse incidents as they develop.
·         Conduct ongoing risk assessments of Resident activities, behavior, and attitude.
·         Maintains a community resource contact list and ensures that staff and residents are informed. 
·         Responsible for intakes, admissions, case management and planning for residents of EWL.
·         Participates in case specific service planning and review meetings with program and service team including Operations Manager and collateral partner agencies, DTC Workers, Parole & Probations officers and CSF workers.
·         Reviewing and coordinating reunification plan with children as appropriate, liaising with Child & Family Services or other community services.
 
Program and Participation
 
·         Provides learning opportunities and experiences that promote Indigenous self-awareness and healing.
·         Facilitates case consult sessions.
·         Attends, participates, and assists in coordinating EWL program sessions, sharing or healing circles, recreational activities, or other scheduled Centre events.
·         Maintains morale and ensures a healthy, safe work environment for other staff and Residents by maintaining professionalism and respect for individuals and applying laws, policies and procedures of the Healing Lodge and CSC appropriately and consistently.
·         Maintain constructive workplace relations in the performance of duties to present a positive behavioral example to Residents, thereby fostering an environment conducive to healing. 
·         Attends and participates in the development of workshops, information sessions or other activities, both in the Centre and in the Community as requested.
·         Promotes positive public relations in all matters that may reflect on or effect the reputation of the Centre.
·         Participates in staff activities and professional development courses and workshops as required.
·         Attends all staff meetings as required.
 
Administrative Duties
 
·         Maintain the individual logbook and central file for individual residents.
·         Identifies program and service needs and makes recommendations to Operations Manager.
·         Completes and submits all required statistical data information, reports and case summaries as required or upon request of the Operations Manager and/or Executive Director.
·         Utilizes and completes all administrative and service forms in accordance with IWHC's service Policies and Procedures.
·         Reading and interpreting reports from other professionals to gain an accurate understanding of any concerns expressed and the impact of this information on Residents’ potential reintegration.
·         Research, prepare and analyze files to obtain information in order to produce case management reports.
·         Ensures all assessments, log entries and pertinent case file information is documented legibly with consistency and prudence.
·         Participates in evaluation of EWL programs and services as required or requested.
 
 
 
 
Supervision Received
 
·         Feedback at staff meetings and individual consultation time scheduled with Operations Manager.
·         Individual supervision provided by immediate supervisor and/or Operations Manager at regular intervals.
·         Performance appraisal performed annually.
 
 
Education and Qualifications
 
·         A degree in Social Services/Criminal Justice with at least 2 years’ experience and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience in a related area will be considered.
·         Must have previous experience in staff supervision. IWHC reserves the right to consider any combination of work and life experience deemed acceptable.
·         Knowledge of Indigenous issues and culturally relevant approaches and practices are essential.
·         Knowledge of risk assessment practices, risk management and relapse prevention techniques.
·         Knowledge of data entry and retrieval techniques and various automated systems and software, such as windows, word, excel.
·         Excellent organizational and time management skills.
·         Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
·         Demonstrated ability to work as part of a service team.
·         Must have a certificate in CPR/First Aid or must obtain certification within Probation period.
·         Must undergo a criminal records and child abuse registry check and upon employment must obtain security clearance through Corrections Canada.
·         Ability to speak an Indigenous language is a definite asset.
·         Must have the ability to understand the dynamics of offender behavior and assess their needs and risks.
·         The skills to counsel residents/offenders, form effective relationships and gain trust.
·         The skills to understand the use of authority in supervision and to intervene effectively in crisis situations.
·         Must have the ability to assist offenders in identifying and solving the practical problems involved in their successful reintegration into the community.
·         Must be able to handle stressful situations in an effective, deescalating manner.
·         The ability to assist in identifying and solving the practical problems involved in successful reintegration into the community.
·         The ability to assist in identifying and obtaining community services required for their successful reintegration.
·         The ability to demonstrate cultural competence and respect for diversity.
·         A Class 5 Manitoba Driver's license with vehicle suitable for work.

  • Must maintain professional boundaries with the residents.
  • Must refrain from sharing personal life stories/experiences with residents/offenders.
  • Must keep personal /home scenarios private and separate from work environment.
  • Must follow the confidentiality policy.
  • Are expected to build trusting relationships with residents/offenders and if required their children and to always model appropriate behaviors.  
  • Must ensure that child safety is paramount consideration in all services and supports provided.
  • Are expected to work with residents/offenders in a manner that is non-judgmental, accepting and respectful of differing values, ideas and beliefs.
  • Have a duty to report immediately to the proper authorities and to the Operations Manager if they believe that a resident or child may be unsafe.
·         Have a duty to immediately report suspected child abuse or child protection concerns to the Operations Manager.
Have a duty to report to the Winnipeg Police Service and to the Operations Manager immediately, any incidence of violence causing injury. 
 
 
 
 
Due to the nature of Centre services, all Centre employees need a thorough knowledge of the Centre’s services.  All employees require knowledge of the Centre’s policies regarding confidentiality and access to files and resident’s information.  Employees must also be familiar with other community resources available and accessible to women and children.
