We are seeking a Maintenance Support Engineer Team Lead to join our Mtce & Ops Engineering Support Department. Under the general direction of the Reactive and HVDC equipment Team Lead, will lead the Reactive and HVDC equipment Knowledge Area providing technical expertise for the operation, repair, and maintenance of reactive and HVDC equipment. This role acts as Manitoba Hydro's Subject Matter Expert with respect to maintenance and operations of Reactive and HVDC equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert technical direction and support to engineering workgroups, technicians and personnel for the operation, maintenance, repair and commissioning of all reactive and HVDC equipment.
  • Lead, mentor, train, and develop team members to become well-versed technical experts in reactive, HVDC and related equipment.
  • Develop, modify, evaluate and optimize maintenance philosophies and plans for reactive, HVDC and related equipment.
  • Identify and implement reliability and efficiency improvements as well as cost saving initiatives with respect to historical processes pertaining to the reactive, HVDC and related equipment, such as automated information collection processes and service agreements.
  • Identify, develop and provide training services and programs to site operations and maintenance staff as well as staff in engineering workgroups.
  • Using expert knowledge, identify the root cause of reactive & HVDC equipment failures.
  • Provide definitive recommendations and in-depth, expert, risk-based analysis to the Asset Owner regarding failure.
    remediation including but not limited to; operate with failure, repair, replace.
  • Provide expert input into the development and implementation of condition assessment tools processes.
  • Provide expert input into the development and implementation of advanced data analytics to determine asset health and predict asset failure.
  • Interface with designers, maintainers, manufacturers, and other industry specialists to further Manitoba Hydro's expertise with respect to generators and related assets to improve efficient and reliable use of the corporation's key assets.
  • Provide expert review of technical specifications and design reports with respect to reactive, HVDC and related equipment to ensure quality standard is achieved and design requirements are to be met.
  • Travel to conferences, vendor manufacturing facilities and other utilities, as justified and appropriate in the pursuit of refined expert knowledge with respect to the reactive, HVDC and related equipment.
  • Travel to GOM and TSOM facilities throughout the Province of Manitoba for several days at a time, to support field activities.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a University of recognized standing with a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in the design, operation and maintenance of electrical reactive & HVDC equipment within generating, HVDC and transmission facilities, installation and commissioning processes including two years of supervisory experience.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro policy P513.
  • Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Training is required and must be completed prior to transfer date and renewed annually.
  • Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a specified amount of time).
  • Expert knowledge in the standards, theory, maintenance, testing, and operation of reactive, HVDC and related equipment.
  • Expert knowledge of industry maintenance practices.
  • Proven mentorship abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued technical growth and expansion of knowledge and understanding.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and equipment specific industry standards (i.e. CSA, IEEE, IEC) relevant to generating, HVDC and transmission facilities is an asset.
  • Experience in developing maintenance standards and strategies based on industry best practices and/or RCM methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of safety procedures in generating, HVDC and transmission stations.
  • Familiar with asset management principles.
  • Familiar with, SAP PM (EAM), JobTrac, Documentum, Matlab, PSCAD and Microsoft Office applications and thorough knowledge of the MH drawing system processes.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's Licence.

NOTES:
  • May be required to work at other locations within the province, and where transportation between these sites may be by small aircraft. 
  • The headquarter zone for this position will be in one of several locations, depending on our operational requirements: Winnipeg or Gillam.

Salary Range 
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $51.34-$70.34 Hourly, $98,380.88-$134,784.78 Annually.
