Instructor, Culinary Arts (Term Full-Time)
School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts
 
POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Term Position Available (anticipated January 6, 2025 up to May 9, 2025) 
 
SALARY: $63,375 - $96,946 per annum*
*The successful candidate with a Masters or PhD in a related field will receive an Educational Supplement of $2,850 or $5,700 per annum, respectively, pro-rated on an hourly basis.

DUTIES
Reporting to the Chair, Culinary Arts and Baking, we are seeking a qualified instructor to teach in the Culinary Arts diploma program. The instructor will be responsible for planning, developing, teaching, and evaluating both lab and theory courses associated with the program. Duties may include instruction for various culinary courses. Providing mentorship and support to students, fostering their growth and development in the culinary arts is essential in this role. The instructor will develop comprehensive course outlines, lesson plans, and conduct student assessments. The incumbent will work with the culinary and baking team to deliver approved curriculum content. The incumbent is also required to participate in department and College committees and assist in student orientation and graduation activities.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Diploma from an accredited culinary program; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Cook Red Seal designation
  • Significant experience  professional cooking, which may include restaurants, hotels, clubs or other foodservice venues
  • Extensive experience in a supervisory position
  • Demonstration of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in creating and delivering presentations
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective organization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate posititive outcomes
  • Ability to teach on campus and remotely
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in meat cutting, banquets, international cuisines, and baking skills
  • Experience developing curriculum and instructing at a post-secondary level
  • Food costing experience
  • Experience writing menus
  • Certificate in Teaching for Learning or Adult Education
  • Experience developing and instructing distance delivered courses including on-line
  • Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver blended (synchronous and asynchronous) instruction

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may be required to work throughout the academic year including the summer months
  • Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education program or have previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
  • This position may be required to work overtime
  • May be required to work at various RRC Polytech campuses
