We are seeking a permanent Crane Operator to join our Transmission Operations & Maintenance Converter Stations South Department at our Dorsey/Riel Converter Stations. 

Position Overview:
  • Participate actively and positively in the development of the Utility team and the achievement of the team's goals.
  • Required to drive and/or operate the following equipment in assisting with all phases of work assisting Electrical and Mechanical crews, contractors with Aerial bucket truck, Overhead cranes, Telehandler/Genie, Skidsteer and attachments, Forklift, Front end loader with attachments, Excavator (backhoe), Genie Work Platforms, Truck mounted telescopic and mobile (self-propelled) cranes up to 60 tons – Rough Terrain cranes as well as Boom truck cranes, and Wheel loader with attachments.
  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all assigned vehicles and attachments.
  • Required to direct and train junior personnel.
  • Follow Safe Work Procedures.
  • Perform minor repairs and lubrication on assigned machines and implements.
  • Operate/maintain power tools, hand tools and equipment.
  • Operate and maintain assigned vehicles in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act regulations and Manitoba Hydro standards.
  • As required, will assist in the maintenance duties of Dorsey or Riel Converter Stations.
  • Have a thorough knowledge in practices of handling, securing and hauling of heavy equipment.
  • Perform rigging of equipment associated to a HVDC Converter Station.
  • May be required to work from scaffolds, bucket trucks, in confined areas and outdoors in all climatic conditions. 
  • Ensure that duties performed comply with Corporate and regulatory environmental requirements. Report any incidents or situations that may be harmful to the environment or in violation of Corporate or regulatory requirements to line supervisor.
  • May be required to work at other locations other than within HVDC Transmission Operation Department.

Qualifications:
  • Journeyperson Crane Operator with a Red Seal.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro policy P513.
  • Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Training is required and must be completed prior to transfer date and renewed annually.
  • Must have the necessary experience to operate equipment assigned to the classification.
  • Possess or will be required to obtain a Manitoba Hydro Equipment Operator's Permit appropriate to the equipment to be operated.
  • Capable of working with minimum supervision.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the equipment in its use and service requirements.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to Manitoba Hydro's Corporate Safety and Occupational Health Rules and other approved practices and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must possess and retain a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence (Class III, air brake endorsement).
  • Must have thorough knowledge of safe working procedures and safety rules, provincial work regulations, Corporate Environmental responsibilities and be able to direct others in those procedures.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all the duties of the position and work under adverse weather conditions and temperatures and emergency conditions.
  • Possess a current certificate in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and WHMIS.
  • Capable of working at heights and unusual work environments.
  • Capable of effectively training personnel.
  • Proven ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees.

Salary Range 
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $32.38-$45.18 Hourly, $60,045.88-$86,572.20 Annually.
