Introduction
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is responsible for establishing and managing public infrastructure, including: provincial highways and roads, highway bridges and structures, water and flood control works, and northern airports and marine services. It develops, communicates and administers motor carrier regulatory and safety services. The department also oversees and coordinates emergency preparedness, emergency response and disaster recovery to prevent the loss of life and minimize damages to property and the environment.  
Duties:
The position is responsible for the deployment of the Operator Trainer and Maintenance Career Training (MCT) Programs. Working with the Designated Training Team and Capable Person Trainers, this position. ensures that training schedules are adhered to, while content is delivered professionally and consistently throughout the Region.
The position is responsible for the scheduling, proficiency testing, and training in the safe and efficient methods of equipment operation as well as best maintenance practices to MTI staff. The position involves assisting in the development and modification of the training programs, and the updating and maintenance of all required records and files
Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Experience operating highway maintenance equipment.
  • Experience related to highway maintenance operations.
  • Experience delivering training in a professional manner.
  • Related working knowledge of Occupational, Safety, Health and Risk Management policies and procedure.
  • Related working knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and courteously with a variety of stakeholders. 
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise reports.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to speak in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to coach others to best practices, continuous learning, self-development and for succession planning purposes.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must have a valid Manitoba Class 3 driver's licence with Air Brake Endorsement with the ability to obtain a valid Class 3 Driver Instructor’s Permit within 12 months
  • Must have the ability to successfully complete the Train the Trainer program delivered by the Manitoba Trucking Association. In addition, must be able to successfully complete/attain the following: Operator Trainer Certification Card, First Aid / CPR, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Excavation Training, Defensive Driving Training, Forklift Certification all within 12 months of hired
  • Must be able to travel frequently to various work sites within the Province
  • Must be physically capable of performing all of the required job duties (lifting/carrying 1-25 kg, walking, sitting and standing for prolonged periods, climbing stairs and ladders, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, operating vehicles and wearing personal protective equipment
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions at any hour of the day or night and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold
